Can the filter also be used with hot water?
Yes, the filter can be used with both cold and mixed water, but the water temperature should not exceed 65°C. The filter acts like a mechanical sieve. Since hot water often carries more deposits, it can become clogged more quickly without affecting the function of the filter.
Is the filter suitable for decalcifying water?
Our filter is not specifically designed for complete decalcification, as we want to preserve the important minerals such as calcium and magnesium in drinking water - both of which are essential for our bodies. However, hard water can have a negative effect on the taste. To counteract this, we offer an optional limescale reducer that slightly reduces the limescale content and makes the water taste softer. The limescale reducer lasts for around 20 days, although water hardness can vary greatly.
For complete decalcification, it would be advisable to install a central decalcification system, but this would cost around 3,000 euros including installation.
How effective is the filter at removing contaminants?
Our filter removes over 99.9999% of E.coli bacteria as well as 99% of microplastics and microparticles. Unpleasant odors such as chlorine are also significantly reduced. However, we cannot give a blanket guarantee that all possible contaminants will be removed, as this can vary depending on the water quality. There is never absolute security, but with a filter you are always better protected than without.
What can I do if the filter is difficult to unscrew?
Over time, limescale can build up in the thread, making it difficult to unscrew. A simple trick is to put some olive oil on the thread and let it work for about an hour. Then hold the filter wing with your weaker hand and unscrew the ring anti-clockwise with your stronger hand.
Can I avoid plastic waste with ReinKristall?
The ReinKristall filter has a lifespan of about two months and filters up to 500 liters of tap water. This corresponds to a reduction of over 99% in PET bottles, as you can imagine that you could save 500 x 1L PET bottles. In addition, the filter cartridges are replaceable, so you don't have to buy the entire set again.
Does the filter affect the water flow?
Yes, the filter reduces the flow as the water is forced through different filter layers. With a new filter, flow rates are between 1 and 5 liters per minute, depending on water pressure (at least 1 bar) and water quality. The filter acts as a mechanical sieve. If the water flow slows down, this may indicate that the filter has retained large amounts of dirt and impurities from the tap water.
